If you’re looking for fire-affected communities you can inject some much-needed tourism dollars back into, here are some of the top choices.

The 2019-2020 Christmas and New Year period saw thousands of people impacted by one of the worst bushfire seasons on record. The loss of life and wildlife, homes, communities and businesses was keenly felt all around the world – with many watching on, feeling helpless as to how their efforts could aid those struggling through heartbreaking losses.

As the fires settle into containment, many affected regions have re-opened for business, ready to welcome visitors with wide arms. Please, #holidayherethisyear, remembering to pack light and shop locally in these recovering towns. Your tourism dollars will play a major role in aiding the local economies and restoring optimism back into communities affected by the bushfires.

Billed as ‘The Gateway to the Stirlings’, Cranbrook can be found 320 km south of Perth in the Great Southern Region.

Located in the pristine Shoalhaven region of the NSW South Coast, Milton is three hours’ drive from Sydney.

Southern Highlands, NSW

The Southern Highlands is just a 90-minute drive south of Sydney and two hours’ north of Canberra.

Corryong lies 120 km east of Albury, Wodonga, near the pristine upper reaches of the Murray River.

Sale is situated roughly mid-way between the other large Gippsland centres of Traralgon and Bairnsdale.

You’ll find Taree on the Mid North Coast, 16 km from the mouth of the Manning river, just over three hours northeast of Sydney.
