Australian towns to visit after the bushfires

Details

Curated selection of points

If you’re looking for fire-affected communities you can inject some much-needed tourism dollars back into, here are some of the top choices.

The 2019-2020 Christmas and New Year period saw thousands of people impacted by one of the worst bushfire seasons on record. The loss of life and wildlife, homes, communities and businesses was keenly felt all around the world – with many watching on, feeling helpless as to how their efforts could aid those struggling through heartbreaking losses.

As the fires settle into containment, many affected regions have re-opened for business, ready to welcome visitors with wide arms. Please, #holidayherethisyear, remembering to pack light and shop locally in these recovering towns. Your tourism dollars will play a major role in aiding the local economies and restoring optimism back into communities affected by the bushfires.

*And while the destinations below are definitely reflective of business and communities that deserve support, they are in no way indicative of those that are the most deserving, nor exclusively the only places you should visit. This is just one of the many bushfire recovery pieces we will be doing, so be sure to leave your suggestions as to where we can cover next.
